For BMus students, Practical Study and Music Performance tuition is arranged on the basis of weekly individual lessons and regular Practical Classes. Practical Classes are held on Fridays between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm and provide students at all levels with the opportunity of performing work currently being studied before their peer group. Students must perform at Practical Class each semester. First year students must perform once during the year and years 2 to 4 must perform once a semester.
Students studying an orchestral instrument or voice must be prepared to meet costs incurred in securing the services of professional accompanists for rehearsals for examination preparation. The School, however, will meet the cost of accompanists for Music Performance examinations required for BMus students undertaking MUSC1201, MUSC2201, MUSC3201 and MUSC4201 on instrument or voice.
Practical Class Attendance requirements: Practical classes include masterclasses, workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and seminars on performance-related topics. All students undertaking Practical Study, Composition or Music Performance courses are required to attend at least 7 practical classes in each semester.
Concerts and Concert Attendance requirements: The School organises a range of concerts each semester, both on and off campus, including Thursday lunchtime concerts on campus and twilight and dinner concerts at Customs House. Students are encouraged to attend all Lunchtime concerts, however, failure to attend at least 7 concerts each semester will result in the reduction by a grade for the course for which these attendances are required. NOTE: Attendance is NOT required for 4th year Music Education, Music Therapy, Composition and for 3rd and 4th year Musicology students.
A separate Concert Diary is issued each semester. For information contact the Concert Officer on 3365 3503, fax 3365 7034.
